The probability of FED rate hike and gold price have a negative correlation for the following reasons:
1. FED is usually expected to raise interest rate when the economy is expanding. Gold price falls because investors have less hedging demand.
2. When FED is expected to raise interest, dollar index rises as well. And gold and dollars go opposite directions.
3. Gold doesn't bear interest. When interest rate rises, the funds will move from gold to other investment such as savings, and suppreses gold price.
