A semiconductor is a material that exhibits both conductive and insulating properties. Semiconductors are ubiquitous in modern electronics, such as televisions, air conditioners, smartphones, computers, automobiles, and medical devices. 2. EDA Tools: Electronic design automation (EDA) tools are software applications that assist and streamline the IC design process. They assist engineers in designing and verifying the functionality, layout, and performance of integrated circuits (ICs).

3. Semiconductor Materials: Key materials for semiconductor manufacturing include silicon wafers, specialty chemicals and gases, slurries, polishing pads, and diamond discs.

4. Wafer Fabrication: Foundries, also called fabs, take the completed IC design and manufacture the chips by etching the circuit patterns onto silicon wafers.

5. Semiconductor Equipment: Equipment used in semiconductor manufacturing includes lithography machines, etching machines, thin film deposition equipment, diffusion and ion implantation equipment, inspection equipment, and photomask equipment.

6. Packaging & Testing: Once chip fabrication is complete, chips are encased in protective packaging made of plastic, ceramic, or metal. The finished chips are then tested for functionality, reliability, and energy efficiency.
