Save China Population

China thrives on its demographic dividend from 1980 to 2010. The one-child policy implemented from 1979 to 2016 causes birth rate to decline and the working age population to decrease.

The Chinese government now encourages people to have the second child and expects the total population to increase by 198 million to 1.48 billion by 2050. According to China official estimates, if the one-child policy had remained in place, the total population would decline to 1.28 billion by 2050.

The UN estimates that the total population of China will reach 1.36 billion by 2050 as Chinese tend to keep their families small and begin to decline in 2030.

Save Taiwan Population

It is predicted that the percentage of working age population will show a drastic decline from 73% in 2016 to 49% in 2066, due to low birth rate, low death rate, and low immigrants.

The old population surpassed the young in 2017. A high dependency ratio will cause domestic demand and consumption to decrease.

Save India Population

India adds a fresh work force of 10 million people every year. The huge population becomes the main driving force for consumption. India had high birth rate, which allows the country to benefit from the demographic dividend in the next 2 to 3 decades.

The working age population is projected to begin to decrease in 2040. The old age population will not surpass the young until 2060. The main problem behind such a huge population, however, is poverty. A large number of unemployed work force and frequent natural disasters are the reasons why the poor population in India accounts for 33% of that in the whole world.

Save Russia Population

Russia is one of the few countries whose population is in the decline. The young population is larger than the old due to high death rate.

Russian's life expectancy is shorter than that in other developed countries by around 10 years due to high consumption of alcohol. The average lifespan in Russia is 70 years old. The Russian government has offered incentives to stimulate birth rate, but the effect was short-lived.

Save Mexico Population

Mexico is the second largest country in Latin America. Birth rate was as high as 6.7 births per woman until the government announced new population policies that encourage family planning in starting in 1972.

Mexico still maintains a high birth rate compared to other countries. Fertility replacement rate will not rise to birth rate level until 2025. Its working age population will continue increasing until 2030. The old population will not surpass the young until 2047. The huge population is the main driving force behind consumption.

Save Brazil Population

Brazil has the fifth largest population in the world and is expected to run out of its demographic dividend in 2020 due to decreasing birth rate. Birth rate in Brazil has fallen below fertility replacement rate in 2005, which happened much earlier than the projected year of other emerging economies like India and Mexico. Although Brazil's working age population lacks rising momentum, it remains around 70% of the total population. The total population is still young; the old is expected to surpass the young in 2037.

Save South Africa Population

South Africa law permits polygamy for men under certain circumstances. Birth rate is very high and the total population is expected to increase from 570 million to 730 million by 2050. Birth rate will remain over at least 2 births per woman until 2040. South Africa benefits from its demographic dividend until 2045. The old population will not surpass the young until 2078.
