Bitcoin’s Net Unrealized Profit/Loss (NUPL) measures the overall profit and loss position of investors. A positive value indicates that investors, on average, are in profit; a negative value indicates they are in loss. Very high readings suggest that most investors are in profit, reflecting extreme optimism, while very low readings imply widespread losses and extreme pessimism. NUPL is calculated as (Market Value – Realized Cap) ÷ Market Value. The realized cap represents the aggregate value of Bitcoin based on the price at which each coin last moved. The gap between market value and realized cap shows whether investors as a whole are in net profit or loss.
