At MacroMicro, sometime before the Lunar New Year each year, we set aside a full day to gather the entire team for the annual kickoff event, where we celebrate team and personal highlights over the past year, and discuss and align on key goals and priorities for the upcoming year.
Building Stronger Teams: Leveraging Insights from Personality Tests
In addition, this year we invited all MMers to take the Lumina Spark personality test and organized a team-building activity around the results. At MacroMicro, we believe people are our greatest asset, so understanding each other is essential! Through the exercise, we gained insights into the diverse personality traits teammates display under everyday and stressful contexts. Interestingly, we found that many of our colleagues are introverts in everyday settings but tend to lean towards the extroverted side when under pressure.
This was more than just a fun test. It provided a unique opportunity for everyone to understand themselves and one another in a meaningful way, seeing the diverse communication styles and underlying motivations across the team, which will allow us to understand each other’s perspectives and work better together.
Setting the Course for the Year Ahead
Moreover, this year’s annual kickoff was also quite unique, in that it included sessions where MMers were divided into groups based on four big themes: new models, new products, new markets, and new content. Group leaders led discussions to brainstorm innovative ideas and strategies. After a full day of engaging discussion, MMers developed a clearer vision of the roadmap for the year ahead.
Always Embrace the Day 1 Mentality, You See It Because You Believe It
Finally, during the “reflect and envision” session, CEO Rachel looked back on 2023 by sharing feedback and encouragement from users in the year-end annual user satisfaction survey, including remarks like “You are one of the very few teams whose dedication and passion shine through in your work,” “Lucky to have an exceptional team like yours,” and “Your work has created immense value for us fellow investors.”
And looking ahead to the new year, Rachel emphasized the motto “See it because you believe it,” encouraging the team that when we believe in what we can achieve, we’ll see the path forward and dare to push boundaries. Likewise, going into the new year, we at MacroMicro will continue to embrace the Day 1 mentality to deliver even better website experience and services!
