I. Overview of the Newly-Launched Industry Intelligence Hub
Our newly-launched Industry Intelligence Hub provides a one-stop solution for users to connect the dots between macro trends, industry insights, and individual stocks. Featuring critical data across 7 key global industries (semiconductors, display panels, smartphones, PCs, automotive, energy, and maritime shipping), the Industry Intelligence Hub brings together macroeconomic and industry indicators, financial data of leading companies in each industry, and exclusive indicators on emerging trends like AI, EVs, and geopolitical risks. By integrating all this information in one place, the platform is a powerful tool for making data-driven investment decisions with ease.
Clicking into each industry’s dedicated page, you’ll see four main sections: MM Analyst Recommended Charts, Industry Value Chain Overview, Top Charts in the Industry, and Related ETFs. Here’s a closer look at each section:
1. MM Analyst Recommended Charts
This section highlights the top 10 must-see charts for each industry, including five-year stock performance of key industry players as well as industry and macroeconomic charts selected by our expert research team. These charts help you quickly grasp the latest industry trends.
2. Industry Value Chain Overview
On the right of this section, you'll see a descriptive summary of the industry’s value chain, while the left side displays a visual breakdown of the industry’s upstream, midstream, and downstream segments. You can click on each button to learn about the leading companies in that specific segment, or simply click on “click here for the full list across all segments” for a list of major companies in all industry segments, plus their listing locations and stock tickers.
3. Top Charts in the Industry
The Top Charts section is the core of the platform. With our easy-to-navigate dashboard view, the section organizes over 300 exclusive indicators, categorized by themes like macro trends, revenue/inventory/profitability analysis, business segment performance, AI trends, EV trends, and geopolitical risks. More on these category labels below.
4. Related ETFs
For four of the key industries (semiconductor, automotive, energy, and shipping), there’s also the “Related ETFs” section at the bottom, displaying related industry ETFs and key info such as asset under management, expense ratio, current price, and performance over different timeframes. For more information, you can also click on each ETF name, which will take you to its dedicated page in our ETF section.
II. Navigating the Top Charts Section: Unlock Insights from 300+ Indicators
Now that we’ve covered main sections on each industry page, let’s take a closer look at the Top Charts section. Besides the “Featured” label, charts are also further categorized with tags like Macro Industry, Revenue/Inventory/Profitability Analysis, Business Segment Analysis, and other thematic labels.
1. Macro Industry
Charts labeled “Macro Industry” provide a top-down view of industry-wide trends and supply-demand dynamics. For instance, for the semiconductor industry, such charts include Taiwanese exports, U.S. computer and electronic product orders, and semiconductor component production in various countries. For the auto industry, car sales, production, and inventories across key economies are the ones to watch.
To provide an example of top-down analysis, the first three “Macro Industry” charts on the Semiconductor industry page point to a sustained trend of record semiconductor sales, led by sales in the U.S. and driven by two key applications—computing & data storage and wireless communication—which together account for over half of global semiconductor revenue and are expected to drive demand in the next three years. These indicators reflect the ongoing momentum in the semiconductor industry fueled by recent trends like AI and 5G communications, which could potentially extend over the next 2~3 years.
Similarly, the "Macro Industry" charts on the Auto industry page offer a comprehensive view of the auto market. The chart about annual vehicle sales shows that China and the U.S. are the world’s largest auto markets. Monthly vehicle sales across key economies, in terms of both volume and value, are also included.
2. Revenue/Profitability/Inventory Analysis
While the Macro Industry charts feature mainly macro data, charts with labels like “Revenue Analysis,” “Profitability Analysis” or “Inventory Analysis” focus on financial data of representative companies in each industry. On the Semiconductor industry page, for instance, the “Revenue Analysis” charts provide a straightforward snapshot of top players in each segment of the semiconductor supply chain.
The charts below reflect revenue trends of leading semiconductor companies. Companies like Broadcom, TSMC, and Nvidia continue to post record revenues, primarily driven by booming demand for AI, which in turn has fueled a surge in demand for computational power and boosted shipments of chips and servers. In just a few charts, users can easily identify market leaders at each node of the supply chain.
Let’s look at another example on the profitability side. With the “Profitability Analysis” charts on the Shipping industry page, we can assess profit margins in two ways: across industry peers and across quarters. Among container shipping companies, Evergreen and Yang Ming’s operating margins in Q1/Q2 of 2024 are significantly higher than other global shipping giants and have shown signs of improvement each quarter. That said, comparing across years, overall profitability of the shipping industry is still well below the peak levels in 2021, indicating that the supply chain is not facing the same level of tightness as before.
Note: Given diversified and complex operations across shipping, logistics, and terminal services, Maersk does not disclose cost of goods sold (COGS) or gross margin figures on a quarterly basis.
Inventory is another critical metric for monitoring industry trends. For instance, while most manufacturing sectors including electronics were in the downswing phase from 2022 to the first half of 2023, the auto industry, benefiting from easing auto chip bottlenecks, actually began to aggressively restock during that period. However, the trend reversed in mid-2023, as the auto industry faced headwinds and inventories entered a brief destocking phase. As of Q3 2024, we have only seen modest inventory replenishment in China due to the rebound in EV demand, while other markets have yet to bottom out.
3. Business Segment Analysis
Besides charts that consolidate financial data of key companies in one view, charts with the “Business Segment Analysis” label provide a more granular view of the revenue breakdown of individual companies, offering insights into which products or services are the main revenue drivers and how fast each business unit is growing.
For instance, the charts below display the revenue composition by business segment of major global PC brands, where revenues of HP's Personal Systems segment, Dell's Client Solutions segment, and Apple's Mac segment have all shown encouraging signs of demand and sales recovery in 2024.
III. Exclusive AI-Powered Indicators: Discover Market Hotspots from Earnings Call Transcripts
Beyond the seven industry pages, there is also the AI Text Mining page, which features exclusive indicators based on analysis of specific keywords mentioned in the earnings calls of U.S.-listed companies since 2008. By tracking the frequency of macro-related keywords (e.g., inflation, interest rates, recession) and thematic keywords (e.g., AI, EV, climate change, ESG), these indicators allow users to identify topics of keen market interest as well as shifts in long-term trends.
For instance, the charts below illustrate the dramatic increase in AI interest following the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, as average number of AI mentions surged from 2 to 7 times per earnings call.
We’ve also included charts that showcase keyword frequency by sector, based on the 11 sectors of the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS). Moreover, utilizing OpenAI’s embedding technology, we’ve developed the MM AI S&P 500 Earnings Call Optimism Index series, which transforms qualitative transcript data into quantitative sentiment metrics for assessing business confidence in different sectors (more in this article: What Do Earning Call Keywords Reveal About Market Trends?.
