The smartphone industry integrates hardware components (screens, processors, memory, etc.) with software technologies (operating systems, GPS, communication networks, etc.) into portable and real-time computing devices with diverse applications that work across various contexts like communication, entertainment, and work. The industry can be divided into three segments:

1. Electronic Components: At the upstream, this segment provides essential components like baseband chips, RF chips, optical lenses, touch panels, display driver ICs, circuit boards, memory, passive components, antennas, batteries, and enclosures.

2. Smartphone Assembly: Manufacturers in this segment oversee and coordinate with component suppliers and assemble components, motherboards, and enclosures into complete devices. They primarily focus on assembly and production, with some manufacturers engaging in independent R&D. Depending on the level of involvement, they can be classified as original brand manufacturers (OBMs), original design manufacturers (ODMs), or original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). There are also electronic manufacturing services (EMS) providers that go beyond manufacturing and also offer other value-added services like inventory management, logistics, product repair, and supply chain expertise.

3. Smartphone Brands: This segment directly addresses end users, responsible for the design, technology development, and hardware-software integration of smartphones, as well as marketing and distribution. Well-established brands possess high brand value.
